If you are a movie lover, then you know that not all movies are filmed in a studio. Some movies require filming to occur in real cities and places. It is amazing what a city or place can transform into for filming purposes. But the best filming locations are those that have been left untouched. Whether it be a historical monument or a beautiful city, the true beauty is kept unchanged in a movie. So if you are a big movie fan but aren’t sure where to start your travels, check out the list below.

1. Bocca della Verita (Mouth of Truth), Rome, Italy

In the famous movie, Roman Holiday, the character played by Audrey Hepburn decides to on a tour of Rome with Gregory Peck’s character. The two end up at this little place in Rome where the Mouth of the Truth is located. Legend has it that if you are a liar and put your hand in the mouth of this statue, your hands gets cut off. Legends may not always be true, but why not check out this place and see for yourself.

2. Greece

If you have ever seen the movie Mamma Mia! then you will know that it takes place in Greece. Many parts of the movie was actually filmed in Greece. The crystal clear blue water in the movie does not compare to the real life beaches in Greece but it entices you to wait to visit.

3. Tuscany, Italy

Under the Tuscan Sunwas filmed almost entirely in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany. As the character of Diane Lane tries to rebuild her life in a new country, she becomes close to nature through her Tuscan Villa. Visiting the rolling hills of this wine country should definitely be at the top of your bucket list.

4. Cape Ann, Massachusetts

Almost everyone is familiar with the picturesque town of Cape Cod. But not everyone is aware that there is another beautiful city near the Cape with breathtaking views. Manchester by the Sea was filmed in Cape Ann and throughout the movie you are able to see the beauty of Cape Ann.

Even though London is home to the Royal family, that should not be the primary reason to visit London. The movie, Love Actually, was filmed throughout places in London and it has tugged at heart strings all over the world. Visiting the city that gifted the world the Royal family, the Beatles, and David Beckham should be at the top of your to do list!

The movie Slumdog Millionaire not only won the Best Picture award, it also won the hearts of everyone around the world. If you visit India, you will get to see the rough parts of the country along with the most beautiful parts. No country is perfect and visiting India is definitely worth your time.

Las Vegas is on almost every travel destination list in the world. If you have seen the movie The Hangover, then you will want to try and recreate the actions in the movie with your friends. But be careful, enjoy your time in Vegas but do not overdue it.

8. The Caribbean

Any place you visit in the Caribbean is surrounded by luxurious sandy beaches and amazingly clear water. The Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise has skyrocketed the tourist numbers for all of the Caribbean islands.

9. Salzburg, Austria

The hills are alive with the Sound of Music, almost quite literally. The filming of that movie was partly done in Austria. You can recreate the adventure that Julie Andrews’ character had by dancing and singing on the gorgeous mountain tops of Austria.

10. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The second largest city of Pennsylvania has an amazing skyline. The filming of the movie Fences was heavily done in Pittsburgh. The blue collar history of this amazing city makes it the perfect destination for an All American vacation.

11. South America

Since South America is extremely beautiful but a large continent, it is hard to choose which country to visit. By watching the movie, The Motorcycle Diaries, you have seen the glorious rainforests but not in person. Head on a plane or motorcycle and check out the rainforests of South America.

Tibet is not the richest place in the world but it is rich in culture and history. The movie, Seven Years in Tibet depicts the struggles of man and the history of Tibet. Although Tibet has been divided up by China, they have maintained their own language, currency, and army. Wouldn’t it be amazing to visit such a strong country with great values?

The Windy City has been at the center of many movies such as Chicago and Ferris Buller’s Day Off. These movies bring character to the city and helps attract thousands of tourists a year.

Trying to find yourself is half the battle in life, but if you visit Bali, you can get one step closer. Like the movie, Eat, Pray, Love, you can embrace a new lifestyle in Bali.

15. Fiji

Being stuck on a deserted island may not be too bad if you aren’t alone.  But in the movie Castaway, Tom Hanks’ character was stuck on a Island by himself. While this island may not have been the prettiest, it’s filming location was in Fiji. Fiji is a perfect place for diving lovers to visit.

16. Berlin, Germany

Berlin haspreviously hosted the famous musical festival in Europe, Love Parade. While this parade may not occur each year, Berlin is a great city to visit even without the festival. The festival appeared in the Mandy Moore movie, Chasing Liberty.

17. Los Angeles, California

It is no secret that Los Angeles is the home to the biggest stars in Hollywood. There are many films that have been at the center of Los Angeles’ attention. Movies such as Pretty Woman and La La Land allow people to catch a glimpse of this beautiful city. But wouldn’t you want to see the real deal?
